Takeaway #1: I've largely ignored the importance of communication skills, probably because it isn't perceived as an area of strength for me. But I’m convinced! I need to check out ultraspeaking when my schedule permits.
Takeaway #2: Maybe I live under a rock but I had never heard the phrase “knee-high to a grasshopper” before (said in passing towards the end). Now it’s my favorite. I love the imagery it conjures up.
Takeaway #3: Silence is golden (in conversation) : )
Isn't it interesting that when we don't perceive a skill as an area of strength, we tend to suppress the importance of it?
I notice in my kids that they are naturally drawn towards skills they feel they can get good at and - unless it's brought to their attention - can be averse to skills they think they aren't good at.
I listened to your discussion, let it soak for a day, and only then I realized that the heading is a reference to the Ultraspeaking game 😅
Thank you for the talk. I used to go to Toastmasters which is more about the codified and formulaic style of public speaking Charlie referred to. It's refreshing to see and feel how Ultraspeaking focuses on inner transformation instead and ends up about much more than strictly public speaking.
Great conversation!

Glad you enjoyed the joke! 😀
